Beautifully reproduced watercolor view of Philipsburg, capital of the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of St. Maarten / St. Martin. Painted in 1822, by the Swedish artist-cartographer Samuel Fahlberg, the original was discovered in the Royal Dutch Archives in The Hague, the Netherlands. This peaceful scene shows cattle and horses grazing in the foreground. Philipsburg, on its thin sand spit, lies behind the Great Salt Pond, where salt was harvested for more than 200 years! Out to sea in the distance looms the familiar rugged profile of the island of Saba. This print would make a truly beautiful souvenir for anyone who has visited St. Maarten / St. Martin. It is on display and sold in the island's museums and galleries. Printed area measures approximately 19" X 11". Margins are wider (3") than appear in pic. Archival, acid-free paper. Print is in perfect condition. Buyer pays $5.80 for shipping (in tissue paper and cardboard tube). Please see also my 1817 Map of St. Martin, also by Samuel Fahlberg (Item No. 270361530882) and my Antique-style Map of St. Martin and the Virgin Islands (Item No. 270362609012).
